NFT Use Cases in Sport

A look at emerging NFT use cases in sport, including in-game activations, NFT drops, ticket-linked collectibles, and athletes minting their own collections.

We are just starting to discover the possibilities that NFTs can offer sports, and already we’re seeing some awesome use cases out there. Let’s take a look at how some of these early use cases are already NFT sports dreams.

In-game NFT activations are a way to engage the fans in the stadium. Once the game is underway, the fan’s NFT is activated, allowing them to further participate with the other fans around them or even with the team.

NFT drops. Similar to when the sports organisation shoots shirts into the crowd, the club could airdrop NFTs to a select number of fans that grants them special access around the stadium or a new connection to the players.

Specialised NFTs could also be created for fans who buy tickets. Simply scan a QR code and collect your team NFT as you head into the game.

Star athletes making their own NFTs has become a common trend starting up is. Now that NFTs are around, the athletes can create their own sports NFT collection to generate some income!

Even with just a few adaptations, NFTs seem to be changing the way fans enter stadiums. The trading card industry, though shifted into the digital world, has totally reignited in popularity. And interacting with athletes has become a whole new ball game.
